Hey you, my name is Duni, founder of SOHO Gent. At 31 years old, as a mother of three wild boys (ranging from toddler to teenager) and an entrepreneur through and through, I created SOHO.
In 2021, I decided to start something completely my own. My partner is a tattoo artist, but I'm not. I wanted to create a place where tattoos and a warm, homely atmosphere come together. That's how the idea was born: coffee and tattoos. A place where people feel welcome, understood, and truly at ease.
For two years, I prepared intensively: selecting the perfect coffee, developing our own style, sorting out the paperwork, taking courses, and saving hard. I left my career at Estée Lauder behind, and in 2023 we opened our doors on Dampoortstraat. We soon moved to our current location on Meerseniersstraat, a lovely little side street off the Vrijdagmarkt, right in the buzzing heart of Ghent. What started as a dream quickly grew into one of Ghent's most popular spots.
What really makes SOHO special?
SOHO is a woman-founded studio with an open-minded team of both male and female artists. We are an LGBTQ+-friendly safe space, where everyone can and may be themselves. Here, no one is judged or treated differently based on gender, sexual orientation, race, skin color, religion, or background. Everyone is welcome here, exactly as they are. We openly stand for women's rights, Palestinian freedom, and social justice, and we do not silently distance ourselves from oppression and injustice anywhere in the world.
Downstairs, you'll find our cozy coffee bar, where the homely smell of fresh coffee fills the air. It's a warm, inviting place where you can really relax with a good cup of coffee. A tattoo is never an obligation; you're just as welcome to simply pop in for a quick takeaway coffee. We also regularly organize fun mini-events such as "Sketch & Chat," workshops, and private events.
Upstairs in our tattoo studio, only resident artists work — people we've trusted since the very beginning. This creates a close, familiar atmosphere where everyone feels at ease. At SOHO, the customer experience really comes first. We take plenty of time for free intake conversations, truly listen to your idea, and on the day of your appointment give you all the space to honestly say what you want. Whether you come in for a spontaneous flash tattoo, a big custom project, or your very first tattoo — we treat every idea with the same respect and care.
We're more than just a tattoo shop. SOHO is truly an experience. Sometimes I don't even realize it, but thanks to all of you, in just three years we've grown into a place with almost 10,000 loyal followers and a strong name in Ghent.
